THE SESSION

This session is all about capturing love, connection and real life. Your baby might feed, cry, sleep or wriggle, and that is completely normal. There is no need for perfection, just be yourselves and enjoy these precious moments.

My newborn lifestyle sessions focus on natural, candid moments that show your new life at home or sometimes outdoors with your baby. My aim is to create timeless images that you will treasure forever, capturing the joy and beauty of your family’s story in the heart of your home. We can take photos around the house in different locations and settings, from the living room to the master bedroom, nursery, and even the garden or front door if the light is nice.

Sessions usually last around one and a half to two hours, giving us plenty of time for your baby’s needs. I keep things relaxed and flexible, with breaks for feeding or changing nappies. Having the session at home is convenient because everything you need is close by. A little bit of chaos is completely normal, especially if you have older children or pets, so there is no need to worry. You can expect a lovely mix of images, from close-ups of your baby to natural family moments, and grandparents and pets are always welcome to join if you would like.

WHAT TO WEAR

Simplicity is key. Keep it coordinated, comfortable, and simple for a timeless result.

  • Choose simple, neutral or soft colours (creams, beige, soft greys, pastels, etc.)
  • Avoid big logos or bold patterns
  • Keep comfort over style, because if it feels good, it looks good
  • Layers and textures (knits, linen, cotton) look beautiful on camera

Colour & Harmony: Aim for colours that go well together like neutrals, earth colours or pastels. Instead of exact matching, aim for coordination. Avoid bold colours that might not complement skin tones.

Keep it Simple: Avoid busy patterns, logos, or words. They can distract from the focus of the photos.

Baby’s Outfit ideas:

  • Keep it Simple: Go for plain bodysuits or vests with white nappies.
  • Be Prepared: Have extra outfits ready for unexpected situations.
  • Natural Vibes: Use cozy, natural-coloured wraps and blankets for photos.
  • Skip Skirts: Avoid skirts or dresses for newborns to prioritise comfort.

Mom’s Outfit ideas:

Opt for loose-fitting clothing post-birth for comfort. For a romantic vibe, choose flowing dresses, for a casual look, pair flowy tops with jeans.

Dad’s Outfit ideas:

Timeless choices: Plain t-shirts, shirts, trousers, chinos, or jeans help keep the focus on the baby.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HOME

Let go of the pressure for perfection. I’m not photographing your home. I’m photographing your family in it. These photos will capture your family’s story. No need to stress over cleaning for hours. Just move any unnecessary objects to another room or tuck them into a corner. The camera often captures more than you expect, so it’s best to keep the main area clear of distractions like water bottles or laundry piles.

Here are quick and easy tips to prepare your home with ease:

  • Remove or hide unnecessary items that might distract or look messy like wires, mugs, and anything you don’t want to show in the pictures.
  • Use a clean and neutral duvet cover on the bed, and have soft baby blankets ready.
  • I’ll be happy to help adjust your home and declutter if necessary.

I may move small items or adjust furniture slightly to get the best light, always with care and respect. The most important thing is that you feel relaxed. The photos are all about your family, not perfection.

PROPS

I love creating simple and natural photos that focus on people and their emotions. While I usually don’t use props, you’re welcome to include special items or outfits that you’d like your baby to wear. It could be something meaningful, like a blanket from grandma or room decorations made for the baby. Feel free to add a personal touch to the photoshoot in your home.

BEFORE I ARRIVE

  • Try to feed your baby right before or as I arrive, a full tummy = a settled baby.
  • Turn up the thermostat slightly, as babies love warmth.
  • Don’t worry if your baby’s schedule changes… they always do! We’ll pause for feeds, nappy changes and cuddles whenever needed.

WHEN I ARRIVE

We’ll start by getting to know each other and your baby. If you like, I’d love a quick tour of your home to see the best spots for photos. Then we’ll begin gently, following your baby’s pace. I’ll use two cameras to capture lots of natural, joyful moments so you’ll have plenty of beautiful photos to choose from.
